When installing horizontal surfaces, builders often use a screed - a layer of concrete between the subfloor and the pavement. In this case, the floors are leveled, and the finish becomes more durable. An increase in the bearing capacity of the structure is facilitated by the laying of a special reinforcing mesh before applying the concrete mixture to the base.
Reinforcement mesh for screed
Although this procedure is optional according to building codes, screed mesh is used: • for installation on moving ground; • when pouring concrete mixture on a wooden base; • for strengthening the floor under the fireplace or columns; • for pouring concrete over 0.5 cm thick; • when installing a warm floor; • when laying a layer of mineral wool; • when adding crushed stone or expanded clay to the underlying layer. Reinforcing mesh is made of metal or plastic. According to statistics, the most commonly used steel, polypropylene, fiberglass or basalt base. During production, composite materials are additionally bonded with plastic. The quality of the mesh directly depends on the thickness of the material and the size of the cells, moreover, the strength of the product increases with a decrease in the size of the cell. The most popular is traditionally galvanized steel mesh, which is not susceptible to high temperatures and is resistant to fire. Polypropylene screed mesh is much lighter than metal and is used where there is a risk of exposure to alkalis and moisture. Polymer-coated fiberglass (fiberglass) mesh weighs several times less than steel, with comparable strength and better stretchability without damage. The fiber-reinforced screed, consisting of aluminoborosilicate glass, basalt or polypropylene fibers, does not conduct electricity, does not shield, does not interfere with the operation of cellular communications and the Internet.
Mesh for screed reinforcement
The metal screed mesh is made of twisted or welded cold drawn wire. Screed reinforcement mesh is produced in the form of sheets and rolls. Plant - the manufacturer supplies products with small mesh sizes of thin wire in rolls up to 2 meters wide, which are much more convenient to transport. Reinforcement material is placed at the very bottom of the concrete layer to minimize the risk of deflection and stretching due to external loading. The mesh for reinforcement is laid without contact of the ends with the wall. For reliable reinforcement, adjacent rolls are mounted with an overlap of about 15 cm. Application of meshes for screed reinforcement: • significantly increases the service life of the floor; • promotes uniform distribution of the load on the coating; • protects concrete from cracking; • increases the strength of the floor; • prevents subsidence of the structure; • helps to save the used concrete mix. Provided that quality screed materials are used, the floor with a reinforced mesh will last almost forever.
